How to Make a Small Trade Show Display Deliver Big Results

Every company has had to exhibit for the very first time.  They have all had to deal with a small marketing budget and most have had to start with a small trade show display.  A company comes to that first event with common goals: Get the attendee in the trade show booth, engage them, and end up with a new client.  You can create this engaging experience no matter the size of the display or budget.  Here are a couple of ideas that will help you create a huge impact with your small display.

1. Take the table away from the front of the display area.  This gives the impression of a barrier to keep attendees out. If you need a table, put it to the side or in the back.  Get your staff up to the front of the display area to answer questions and engage with the attendees.

2. Forget about handing out a bunch of literature.  This is a waste of trees and most attendees will thank you.  Create an electronic version of your company literature, carry a tablet or have a video monitor set up with the information, and let the attendee read right there or you can email this info right away to them.  Attendees will appreciate the fact they do not have to carry more brochures and the company will save on printing, shipping, and drayage.

3. Bring an extra power strip and offer to charge electronic media right in your booth.  You will be amazed at how the word will spread of a free charge area, and attendees will flock to your display, whether they intended to or not.  This is a great way to engage attendees and keep them around.

4. If the staff utilizes tablets or other electronic hand held aids, make sure they are filled with information and brochures about the company.  Once an attendee stops or shows interest, the staff member can hand over the device which forces the attendee to engage with them.  This is a great ice breaker and again, relieves the display area of needless clutter.

5. One idea that seems to be taking off is to create a full immersion experience for the attendee.  Companies are offering a place for an attendee to sit back and relax.  At the same time, the exhibiting company has set up a video that keeps the attendees attention.  This video should include show and/or company information.  This functions as multipurpose piece which the attendee can watch as you finish with another attendee or can be utilized to provide company information.  One suggestion is to change the video each day to keep interest high.
